KINGSTON, R.I. - Rhode Island freshman Katharina Spieth was named the ITA All-New England Rookie of the Year Tuesday.

Spieth - the 2025 Atlantic 10 Most Outstanding Rookie - made an immediate impact for the Rams. She was 19-7 in singles play during the 2025-26 season, going 12-2 at the No. 1 spot in dual matches. The first Rhode Island player in program history to win a major year-end award in the Atlantic 10, she also was an A-10 First Team All-Conference selection and a four-time conference Rookie of the Week.

During the fall, Spieth reached the semifinals of the Atlantic 10 Masters Qualifier, winning her first three matches before falling to Davidson's Sofia Maria Barbulescu in three sets. Barbulescu, the third overall seed going in, eventually won the tournament.

As a team, Rhode Island was 15-6 and reached the quarterfinals of the Atlantic 10 Championship. The 15 wins tied for the second most in a season in program history.
