KINGSTON, R.I. – Rhode Island forward Patrick Gryczewski was drafted in the third round of MLS SuperDraft 2025 Friday.
Taken with the 72nd overall pick, Gryczewski was selected by Austin FC with the organization's second pick. The club also drafted North Carolina defender Riley Thomas with the 42nd overall pick.
Gryczewski had five goals and three assists over the course of 34 career matches for Rhode Island. Four of his goals with the Rams were game winners. He spent three seasons in Kingston after transferring from Hartford before the 2022 season.
He is the second Ram to be selected in the MLS SuperDraft in three years. Forward Patrick Agyemang was a first-round selection for Charlotte FC in the 2022 MLS SuperDraft, going with the 12th overall pick.
Gryczewski is the fifth Rhode Island player ever to be taken in the MLS SuperDraft, joining Agyemang, Stavros Zarokostas, Geoff Cameron and Jeffrey Gonsalves. Overall, he is the ninth URI player to be picked in the various iterations of MLS drafts. Paolo Dos Santos was technically drafted twice, going in the 1996 MLS College Draft and the 1997 MLS Supplemental Draft.
Ageymang has been a revelation for Charlotte FC. In 43 matches over the last two seasons, he has 11 goals and five assists. In 2024, he led the team with 10 goals and tied for second with five assists as Charlotte won a franchise-record 14 matches.
